Activity Suggestions

I especially encourage our local Singaporean classmates to chime in here. Throughout our time in Singapore and in Ithaca, we should plan a few class activities. Please make some suggestions about the type of activities that you'd like to have.

Maybe we can even form a committee that plans these events? - Do we have any event planners in our group? Just a thought.

  1. I posted this in our facebook group, but didn't seem to get much response from it. Scuba diving anyone? We'd have to go through a 3 day course to get certified first, but there are a plethora of places in SE asia with fantastic diving sites.

  2. I'd totally be up for diving. I've been meaning to get certified for ages, so this is the perfect excuse to actually do it.

Anyone who has been in Singapor before could share experiences.

  9. Hey folks,

Alex has listed some really good suggestions.
If I may add a couple more to that list

    - Lau Pat Sat (Offers about 100 outdoor hawker style local food).

    - Geylang
Its in the heartlands but probably one of the few best bet for local delicacies if you are feeling adventurous.
I will try to post up the lanes that you wanna look out if anyone is interested for but be pre-warned that that is also where the red-light district is.....

    - National Museum
    (http://www.nationalmuseum.sg)
Singapore history for a cheap price!

    - City space/New Asia bar @ fairmount hotel. I'm not encouraging booze but having a slip or bar snack with a eagle eye view of the city at 70th storey at night is pretty amazing

    - Mandai Zoo & Night Safari (http://www.nightsafari.com.sg/)
Both located next to each other and have seperate admission charges. Pretty well maintained and the night safari is the only one in Asia.

As for island hopping, I would suggest Pulau Ubin over Kusu Island for starters as the latter is more of a religious ground and you probably would only be able to witness the interaction during the certain period of the calender year e.g (Buddha birth festival etc).

  10. Hi Guys,

So a few of us were thinking about KL the wknd of May 29th (leaving after the CTAB) - May 31st. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza in KL. We can either take the 5 hr bus trip one way and fly the other or fly both ways .. whatever works ..

And Phuket June 4-7 ... tickets are around $105sgd roundtrip on tiger airways .. and we're staying at the Holiday Inn Phuket.

    Who's in?

  11. Hi all,

I am planning dinner for 23rd May, Saturday. It's going to be simple Singaporean dishes, aka Chinese style. I know the weather's unbearably humid these days, so I'm still searching around for places that serve good food in a nice, air-conditioned environment.

Will update all once I have the details.

A bit more about me - I am Singaporean, born and lived in this tiny island, but have been working in China for the past 6 years. In fact I only returned back to Singapore on 4th May, so I'm still finding my way around. I am interested in the TreeTop walk and the Singapore Flyer, so let's try and work out a day when we can all trot down to town together and have fun :)

Also, if anyone needs any advice/ tips on buying things, or where to get what, please feel free to drop me an email ahmaemae@yahoo.com.sg. I will try my best and help you as much as I can.

  13. PERHAPS... just perhaps only....
For those who can take the peddling and the sun, we can go for a day of cycling, starting from changi, to pasir ris, tampines, bedok, siglap, east coast and back to changi again.
On the way, we'll pass by places like Changi beach, paris ris park, tampines neighbourhood (i believe many of you have been commenting about where the other housing in sg is.. Tampines neighbourhood area would be a good place to see how the residential area is like... although on the way out from NTU u probably already see similiar things), bedok (can we detour and go to the food center there. serves great food. Ethan is familiar with that food center and grab him along), bedok reservior (u can see ppl doing dragonboat practice), siglap park, eastcoast beach, changi airport...
Without stopping, the entire route takes about 3h on the bicycle. stopping and eating and taking photos, maybe we can spend like 5-6h or more. so its like a 10am-5pm kind of activity.

  14. Yuriiki,
This cycling tour sounds interesting. Can we rent a bike from Changi?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yuriiki ... is there a possibility of pushing our biking adventure to the latish afternoon (5pm-10pm) to at least partially avoid the heat and the sun and the sweaty fun?

  16. hey, that sounds fun.. Maybe we can do a night cycling activity... all through midnight till morning. (fri night to sat morning??) There is a haunted Changi hospital that we can visit if u want... my friends went there before in midnight and experienced eerie things... (but i will not go in.. im scared.)
    heehee... im excited!
    lets vote!

I'll just vote for it happening on a weekday. Ok with the rest, be it day or night.
